Healing property of Jawarish Tabasheer, Unani poly herbal formulation in Induced Gastric Ulceration in Rat Models

The healing property of Jawarish Tabasheer, a poly herbal Unani formulation comprising of 11 ingredients, against Cold and restraint and Pyloric ligation- induced gastric ulceration in rats has been studied and compared with standard drug ranitidine. Eight groups of 6 animals each in Cold and Restraint test and 4 groups of 6 animals each in the pyloric ligation test represented as Plain control, Negative control, Pre-treated A & B and Post-treated A & B, (preventive and curative), and received test drug in the dose of 600 mg and 1200 mg/kg, p. o.), Standard control (Pre and Post-treated). Animals in the fi rst test were treated for 5 days before and after ulcer induction, while in the second test, they were treated for 5 days before pyloric ligation. The test drug accelerated the healing process, in both preventive and curative regimen. However, it is more effective in higher dose especially in curative regimen. The healing activity of test drug indicates role of flavonoids, tannin, antioxidants, cyclooxiginase inhibitors, lipooxiginase inhibitors, sedative and antibacterial properties present in individual ingredients of the test drug.
